Our featured website proved to be a life-saver of sorts this week ? and no, it's not an online medical guide.

Quickshare.co.za is billed as "SA's quickest file sharing and hosting service". And they're not far off the point seeing that it's hosted locally. Then again, they might be the only locally-hosted file sharing website...

It's hard to see why this should be bookmarked in the first place if it's 'just a file-sharing service', but with South Africa's tenuous internet service, it's quite the necessity.

After recording some audio from a press event, I needed to get the file to the head of sports, Rob Peters. Of course, Murphy decided to rear his hideous head and international connectivity was abysmal. So the Rapidshare file hosting service was out of the question unfortunately.

But, I remembered that an old classmate mentioned Quickshare as the local equivalent of Rapidshare. And thus, I was able to upload the audio recording to the site and so the day was saved ? or at least the file.

It was all a relatively simple process, starting with registration on the site. Of course, it took ages for my email to come through, but that was due to connectivity issues and not the site itself. Then all I had to do was upload my file and I had the link and delete option at hand.

However, there is one glaring issue that the site has, and that's the 10MB limit placed on files. So if you'd like to upload that family holiday video, you'll want to go back to Rapidshare.

Despite this glaring issue, Quickshare has already proved its usefulness and is well worth bookmarking in case of those virtual rainy days.
