Setting a homepage is a quick and easy way to catch up on news, weather and other happenings. Finding that ideal homepage is a different matter though, but that's where our featured website comes in.
Protopage allows you to create your very own homepage using thousands of websites and feeds. The premise is similar to iGoogle, with users able to move, delete and add widgets of their choosing.
There's plenty of content one can add to the homepage, such as RSS feeds, cartoon strips, podcasts, weather feeds, an email inbox and videos. Adding content is as simple as pasting a URL or feed into a field, then dragging and dropping the resulting box. Almost any website or piece of content you encounter can be used.
You can also pick out options from Protopage's directory, with a healthy variety of blogs, websites, podcasts and cartoons to choose from.
The customisation also extends to the appearance as well, with users able to upload their own backgrounds, name their page and edit the widget boxes as well. Not that there's anything wrong with the original layout, which is simple and eye-pleasing.
It's also possible to add a comment box to stories, a great way to get feedback if your page is publicly viewable. Another neat feature is the Google Maps integration, although it obviously won't be as smooth as iGoogle.
Protopage is a great alternative to Google's effort, boasting a sleek interface and intuitive design. Just don't forget to add a Cooltech widget!
