Reports have emerged suggesting that Apple is working on a new Mac Pro computer system, heralding the first update to its flagship model since the ill-received 2013 iteration.
Daring Fireball reports that the “completely rethought” machine will have an emphasis on modular design, a far cry from the beautiful yet expansion-limited device from four years ago.
The computers are likely to be released alongside specially-designed displays, as well. While Daring Fireball knows for a fact that the Mac Pro will not ship this year, it says the release date remains unknown.
In the meantime, Apple is releasing upgraded models of the current Mac Pro, as well as what it calls “great” new iMac units.
The current Mac Pro ships for between R55 000 and R70 000, and is aimed at the most high-end of computer users, including commercial video editors and architecture and engineering firms.
It’s currently both Apple’s most expensive and most powerful product, with both versions capable of 4K rendering and incredible feats of design using dual GPUs.
