Do you own a smartphone that’s still running Windows Phone 7, 8 or 8.1? Then you should know that as of today, Windows Phone operating system is dead.
That’s according to The Verge, which says that Microsoft has officially ended support for 8.1 as of Wednesday.
It adds that 99,6% of all new phones currently run either iOS or Android.
There are, however, still millions of devices running the software, despite Microsoft ending its run of Lumia devices.
While Windows Phone 10 was released recently, only 20% of Microsoft mobile devices use the system, and support for it, too, will end soon.
The end of support means the end of updates, including crucial security adjustments that protect users from malicious software.
If you are one of those who haven’t yet shifted to newer and better operating systems, you’ll need to get a move on - you’re now at risk.
