Warner Bros. Interactive has treated fans with the surprise announcement of the sequel to the critically-acclaimed Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor video game.
The follow-up, which has been slapped with the epic – and also pretty generic – title of Shadow of Mordor, promises to better its predecessor. This is no easy feat, considering that the original was the winner of more than 50 awards.
Fans of Shadow of Mordor will be happy to hear that their heroes, Talion and Celebrimbor, make a return to the screen.
This time around, they’re taking Sauron head-on, wielding their own ring of power!
Warner Bros. says it has “massively expanded” on the game’s features, including the much-lauded “Nemesis System”, which has proven to be a ground-breaking video game innovation.
The system turns regular enemies into vengeful foes who remember every single encounter. This time around, they’ll have “Followers” who complicate things for Talion.
Although now officially announced by Warner Bros., the game’s cover art, title and price were leaked by retailer Target last week.
Fans have since expressed both excitement and concern, hailing the creation of a sequel, but criticising the developer’s somewhat-butchering of J.R.R. Tolkien’s original Lord of The Rings universe.
Time will tell whether the game is a worthy addition to the iconic storyline. It’s been slapped with an August 2017 release date, and will be available across all major platforms.
