Stop what you’re doing! There are some new Pokémon on the block, and they’re all inspired by the great land of Oz. Not the one with the wizard, but the one down under.
Everyone loves pocket monsters. Since its inception in 1996, the gaming and anime franchise has gone on to inspire several generations of kids – some of whom are all grown up, and no less enthralled.
Pixel art animator Paul Robertson has unveiled his collection of 151 Australia-inspired creatures in his very own Aussie Pokédex, and it’s going viral. Yes, that’s 151 Pokémon, just like in the original generation of games.

Naturally, Australians themselves are loving the designs the most, but the rest of the world is taking note.

Some are inspired by Australian pastimes, like the monstrous “Kaboomerang” and the sizzling “Barbee”. My personal favourites, though, are the cricket-referencing “Wicketts”, and the distasteful yet hilarious "Errwinn".

Have a squiz through the incredibly witty designs, and share them with your Aussie friends – they’ll get the biggest kick out of Robertson’s fine handywork.
