Tesla unveils new roof solar panels

Mon, 10 Apr 2017 11:20 AMTesla is manufacturing an alternative to its solar roof tiles in the form of low-profile solar panels that install directly on to your roof.
According to electrek, the automotive and energy company wants to fill the gap in the market for owners who do not need entirely new roofs.
Tesla’s website now features solar panels that “blend into your roof with integrated front skirts and no visible mounting hardware”.
The only other information provided is that the panels integrate ‘seamlessly’ with Tesla’s Powerwall units, allowing homes to produce energy entirely off the grid.
Electrek further reports that the panels will be manufactured by Panasonic at Tela’s Gigafactory 2 for Tesla alone.
The company had previously announced plans for fully-integrated solar tiles for consumers looking to build entirely new roofs, available in a range of styles.
Both the tiles and the panels are expected to go on sale this year.
