Stop panicking! Microsoft Paint is not dying, as many media outlets have been reporting. The next Windows 10 update will see it removed from devices, but the beloved stalwart design program will live on in the Windows Store.
A recent Microsoft support article revealed that Paint intends to be “deprecated”, meaning that it will cease to feature in development and will likely be scrapped in the near future.
Paint has been around since 1985, and despite undergoing several facelifts, it’s always churned out the same result – hours upon hours of fun.
Despite widespread panic over the potential loss of a household favourite, however, it’ll live on in two incarnations – the new Paint 3D app, and a free legacy version on the Windows Store.
So, what’s the bottom line? Well, Microsoft won’t kill off your mediocre artworks just yet, but it will start urging you to move over to the far more advanced Paint 3D – a program that will take full advantage of the Windows 10 Creators Update.
