Amid the storm of controversy surrounding HBO, the studio behind Game of Thrones, four people have been arrested for leaking an episode before it aired.
According to TorrentFreak, the leak originated from “Star India Pvt Ltd”, with the company’s watermark appearing on the leaked footage, alongside another stating “For Internal Viewing Only”.
The company swiftly launched an internal investigation, and with the help of police, four Indian citizens have been apprehended.
TorrentFreak adds that the four are employees of a company that markets itself as a Netflix “Preferred Vendor”.
This leak was part of a large hack at HBO, with scripts, documents, and several episodes from other shows also being made public.
According to the BBC, the hackers claim to have stolen 1,5TB of data, and are holding it ransom. HBO has since reportedly offered the culprits $250 000.
Episode 6 leaked
As if one leaked episode wasn’t enough for HBO, another has been released early by HBO Spain.
Episode 6, the penultimate installment of season 7, was shared with subscribers for a full hour before anyone realised the mistake.
Fortunately for fans, and unfortunately for HBO, the episode has since been shared widely on torrent sites.
