The hackers behind HBO’s recent misery are threatening another Game of Thrones surprise this week, adding to an already lengthy list of leaks.
The hackers have allegedly told Mashable that they “have access to many HBO Platforms already”, and that a leak of this season’s episode 7 – the finale – is on its way.
According to the site, the hackers are seeking around $6,5-million in Bitcoin as ransom, but with a couple of severely damaging leaks having already occurred, it remains to be seen exactly what HBO will do in response.
Reports suggest that they have already offered a sum of money, yet the hackers seem unfazed. Officially, HBO has stated that it will not ‘play games’ with the hackers, and the company has refused to comment on the latest threats.
Among the information sent to Mashable is a list of login credentials for many HBO social media accounts.
“For legal reasons, we did not attempt to login into the accounts to verify the accuracy of the passwords, but we have no reason to doubt their authenticity given the information the group has shared with us previously,” says writer Jack Morse.
Sadly for the company, its stubbornness may still cost it dearly. Fans, however, will likely be unperturbed by a leak – all it means for them is that they get to see the episode early.
Your move, HBO.
