WhatsApp has joined the likes of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram by introducing verified accounts for selected businesses.
According to the instant messenger, verified accounts will be marked with a special green badge. Although just a pilot programme at the moment, the change will likely become more widespread as more businesses begin to use WhatsApp.
“WhatsApp will also let you know when you start talking to a business via yellow messages inside a chat,” it adds. “There is no way to delete these messages from the chat.”
Like other contacts, businesses will also be blockable, meaning that you won’t need to be harassed with any advertising or spam.
Verification of businesses and public figures has proved successful on other platforms, but it remains to be seen whether WhatsApp will follow suit. At the moment, it’s not an ideal platform for following other accounts, despite the recent launch of story-like status updates.
