Nedbank has warned clients of a new credit card scam being used by criminals to gain information and steal money.
According to MyBroadband, scammers have been phoning Nedbank clients under the guise of Nedbank employees to obtain credit card numbers, CVVs, and expiry dates.
The site adds that clients may also be asked for ‘one-time passwords’ and to accept ‘Approve-it’ messages.
Nedbank has responded to the threat by issuing advice to its clients. “Protect your personal information and be careful who you share it with,” it says in a Facebook post.
It says that it will never ask clients to share card numbers, expiry dates, CCV numbers, OTPs, or request them to accept Approve-it messages.
“If you get and Approve-it message or OTP for a transaction that you have not requested, decline the Approve-it message or call us on 0800 110 929 immediately,” it adds.
