SpaceX has signed up the first customer for its new Falcon Heavy rocket.
The private space firm has signed a deal with satellite giant Intelsat, to commence when the Falcon Heavy is ready for commercial use.
"SpaceX is very proud to have the confidence of Intelsat, a leader in the satellite communication services industry," said Elon Musk, SpaceX CEO and Chief Designer.
"The Falcon Heavy has more than twice the power of the next largest rocket in the world [The Delta IV Heavy – ed]. With this new vehicle, SpaceX launch systems now cover the entire spectrum of the launch needs for commercial, civil and national security customers."
With its first flight set for 2013 at the soonest, the Falcon Heavy will be the most powerful operational rocket in the world. Historically, it's still behind the Saturn V rocket, used in the Apollo moon missions.
