WhatsApp is set to receive a major revamp, taking Snapchat head-on in the ‘stories’ arena.
According to Mashable, the Facebook-owned instant messaging service has already rolled-out its upgraded ‘Status’ feature in some parts of Europe.
Videos and photos posted to your Status will be shown to your friends for a maximum of 24 hours. The app’s main advantage over other is its end-to-end encryption, which also applies to these snaps.
Facebook has already applied a similar concept to its Instagram and Messenger apps, with the former becoming a hit worldwide.
Snapchat, however, remains the global standard in the field. It remains to be seen whether WhatsApp can compete, but its one-billion-plus users will surely give it the kick-start it needs.
Mashable adds that the feature will, naturally, allow users to add emojis, text and doodles to their snapshots.
