South Africans hoping to make the digital migration will have to meet a set of requirements.

The country will make the transition from analogue signals to digital by early next year.

The process will be thereafter phased in the next years.

Digital Dzonga, the council overseeing the process, says people not already on the digital signal need to purchase a decoder first before being able to switch over.

It will cost consumers just R700. TV owners will be required to produce their TV licence to buy it.

Digital Dzonga's Karen Willenberg explains some of the requirements.

"All televisions will need to get a setup box in order to convert the digital signal. For example, if you have an HD TV, you will still need to buy a setup box," says Willenberg.

She says the poor will not be excluded.
