OpenWeb has launched uncapped and unshaped ADSL internet from R196 per month.

These packages were designed for users requiring unshaped bandwidth, with the packages being as follows:

  • 384k Uncapped Lite: R196 per month
  • 512k Uncapped Lite: R296 per month
  • 1024k Uncapped Lite: R445 per month
  • 4096k Uncapped Lite: R495 per month

These uncapped, unshaped packages were designed for low to medium end users. However, if a user is listed as part of the 20% bracket that are considered high end users, the line will be instantly shaped and heavy download applications will be throttled (slowed down).

The accounts will launch on 1 August, however customers may purchase the accounts from 3pm today (29 July) using their credit cards, an EFT payment or debit order.

The account will automatically be scheduled for creation on 1 August.

The current crop of cheap uncapped internet packages are still shaped, meaning that certain protocols (such as email and web browsing) are prioritised over others (such as file sharing and Skype). With an unshaped account, every protocol is given equal priority, a boon for those wishing to communicate via Skype and download large files.
