Apple has pulled statements from its website claiming that Macintosh computers are immune to viruses.

The company has removed the statement "It doesn't get PC viruses" and replaced it with "It's built to be safe," PC World reported.

The firm also removed the statement "Safeguard your data. By doing nothing." and replaced it with "Safety. Built-in."

The change comes a few weeks after Macintosh computers were hit by the Flashback trojan, infecting more than 600 000 computers.

Apple has since released a removal tool and a Java update to thwart the malware.
