Taiwanese giant Asus is planning to release a budget-priced Android tablet next year.
A company representative told iafrica.com that the new tablet is referred to as the ME-172 within the company. The ME-171 name refers to the Asus Eee Pad MeMO ME171, released earlier this year in several regions.
The ME-172 is set to have a 7-inch display and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a rep said, while featuring eight gigabytes of storage.
The slate is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2013, with Asus aiming for a R2000 price-tag.
Asus has experience creating budget-minded tablets, with the Nexus 7 being developed in conjunction with web titan Google.
