Adding another scene

Say for example that you now want to add a second scene to the timeline, which can either be from the same video file, or from a completely different video file.

If it's from the same video file, then you don't need to add it to the Collection space again. Merely drag and drop the same file from the Collection to the timeline, adding it either to the end or to the start of the video you just edited in the timeline.

If you want to use a different video, make sure it's added to the Collection space and then drag and drop it in the same way as above.

Windows Movie Maker now drops the video and audio parts in unedited forms in their separate locations just as it did with the first video you dragged across. You can edit this second part in the same way you did with the first video, but click on the piece first to make sure it's selected.

Now cut out the first and end parts again until only the middle scene that you want is left. Windows Movie Maker will automatically move it to the left until it's lined up with the first scene. If you were to now preview the video in the top right player, you'll see the two scenes will play as if it's one movie.

If you added a music file to accompany the video, edit it in the same way and drag it to where it should begin playing from.

You can add and edit more scenes to your heart's delight until you're left with the movie that you wanted to make.

Finishing up

The final step is to export your movie as a video file — click on the "Finish Movie" heading to expand the task options below it (if it's not already expanded) and then click on "Save to my computer".

A wizard appears — follow the instructions and give your movie a name, choose a place to save it to and then once the wizard is complete you'll have a brand new edited video clip that you can show to all your friends and family!

Footnote: you can add special effects to your video too before you export it, so play around with the options to see what they do.
