Many people swear by the Mozilla Firefox web browser, which boasts a clean interface, fast browsing experience and quite a few features. But there are a few add-ons capable of giving you a better browsing experience.
The first add-on to download would have to be AutoPager ? a simple add-on designed to automatically load the next page as you're reading the current one. It works on a wide variety of sites and is particularly useful when using Google, YouTube and other sites for searches. The best part about it is that the loaded page gets thrown at the bottom of the previous page, allowing for a seamless experience.
The second extension, CoolPreview, allows you to preview (duh!) links and images by simply mousing over the link ? it saves loads of time when you're doing web searches. The temporary bookmark system and ability to send links to people with one or two clicks are also two nifty functions.
The next add-on, called Web Of Trust (WOT), is all about the security. It allows users to rate the reputation of various websites using a traffic light system (green being excellent, orange being average and red being poor). It makes for a great tool thanks to the community-driven system.
For those social network junkies, Shareaholic is a great add-on if you're frequently sharing items with your friends. With support for WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, LinkedIn, Blogspot, Windows Live and a few dozen other sites, Shareaholic is great for spreading items of interest quickly and without hassle.
Advertisements that take longer to load than the host page itself can be a pain, but AdBlock Plus allows you to disable them. By right-clicking on the ad in question, you can choose to block it, or if the whole page is particularly ad-heavy, you can simply click on the icon in the sidebar and block all ads on a site.
Sometimes it's the simple tool that's the most used, as Tabberwocky proves. This add-on adds a variety of functions to your tabs in FireFox, such as the ability to open tabs in the foreground or background, duplicate and lock them among other tweaks.
Another under-utilised but extremely useful tool is the Lazarus Form Recovery add-on. This allows you to recover any text you've typed into a form. This is particularly useful if your browser has crashed or you'd like to speed up repetitive tasks.
All of these add-ons can be downloaded by going to 'tools', choosing 'add-ons', clicking on 'get add-ons' and searching for the relevant extension. If you'd like to tweak the settings for the add-on, go to 'tools', choose 'add-ons' and click on your desired extension.
With a wide variety of add-ons to choose from, there are bound to be a few add-ons that we may have missed. But these few extensions are a great starting point for anyone whose just downloaded FireFox.
