When surfing the web, most users tend to use the built-in Internet Explorer that comes with Windows. Depending on which version of Windows you're running, you might even still be stuck with a very old version of IE.

But you don't need to stay there — and shouldn't, as a lot of today's websites makes use of technology that you'll only find in the latest browsers. So below is a short summary of the top browsers, including the latest version of Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer 8
Most of you will already use a version of IE so you won't need any introduction to it. But it's definitely worth it upgrading to the latest version.

Firefox
The primary Open Source browser that is in many respects better than Internet Explorer — and faster too! (Definitely my personal favourite.)

Safari
This browser used to be exclusively available on Macs, but Apple now also has a version for Windows.

Opera
Before the advent of Safari, Opera used to be third in line. It's still a very good alternative.

Chrome
Google's attempt at a browser is pretty much just Safari with a different skin. Still, it's little tweaks might just make it different enough to suit your taste.

Flock
A browser that makes use of Firefox technology.
