Create your own ringtone — Page 2
Rip a song from a CD onto your hard drive
For this step you will need 'CDBurner XP Pro 3'. (For those of you not in the know, "rip" simply means "Taking a selected track or tracks from a CD and converting it to mp3-format and saving it as a digital file on your hard drive". Simple, isn't it?)
Once you've installed CD Burner XP Pro, follow these steps:
- Insert the music CD into your CD drive;
- If any program auto-runs, close it.
- Open CDBurner XP Pro.
- A welcome screen greets you — click on the third option that says "Click here to... Rip audio CD's to your local drive blah blah."
- A screen briefly shows that says "Scanning buses" — don't worry, it's got nothing to do with automobiles, just let it do its thing. It will disappear after a bit.
- Another screen now shows — labelled
"AudioGrabber 3" — with all sorts of options. First select the "AudioGrabber Options" tab. On this screen, make sure you select "MP3" under "Audio Options and click the two blocks underneath it that says "Write ID3v1/2 to the grabbed track". The "Save Options" block shows where the files will be saved to. You can change this by clicking on the "..." block next to it.
- Now go to the "Grab Audio Tracks" tab. Type in the artist's name, etc., select the song you wish to grab by ticking the box next to it. Highlighting the song will give you the option to type in the name of the song at the top of the screen in the "Track" field.
- When you're done, click on "Grab track to MP3". The progress is shown as the song is being ripped.
- When the song has been ripped, a confirmation screen will appear. Click on "OK".
- Close CD Burner XP Pro.
If you would like to have the whole song as your ringtone (i.e. it will begin to play from the beginning), then you can skip the
next step and go directly to transferring the song to your phone and setting it as your ringtone.
If, however, you would like to only play a favourite portion of the song as your ringtone, then go to the next step that will show you how to cut that portion from the song.
